My personal information

To be honest, I am so lazy to write this stuffs. OK.. let's make it simple and I will start with my Curriculum vitae (CV). This CV was submitted when I applied to take the doctoral programme in Bielefeld University.

While I was studying in University I used to have a very long hair, and I used to be a lazy student. Therefore most of my friends are surprised when they know that now I am working as a lecture, and activly writing many articles in magazine. Yah.. maybe it is a kind of miracle....*grin*.

In my family, I am the second son. I have one older brother - I Wayan Simri Wicaksana, and one younger brother - I Gde Wiyadnya. I have also two younger sisters, Ni Nyoman Widyashanti and Ni Ketut Windyanasari. I used to be a fat and funny looking baby. Looking at these different pictures, youl will notify that our familiy is a Balinese family, of course we do not always wear that clothes. We live in two different worlds, traditional one and modern as well. Our family in Bali live near Tanah Lot, a very famous Hindu temple. A beautiful picture which you can see in this page was taken in Tanah Lot.

I was born in Singkep, a small island in Riau (Sumatra), my father was on duty as a navy officer. Since I was 3 years old, our family lived in Tanjung Pinang, Bintan Island. This island is not far from Singapore. Until 6 years old I lived there, then our family found a new home base, Surabaya. I attended my primary school until the 6th grade in Surabaya (SDN 170, aka SD Dwi Cakti Bakti), however I finished my primary school in Jakarta (SD Duren Sawit 02). Thus, sometimes I cannot claim myself as Balinesse, Javanesse, I can only say I am Indonesian. I grew up in various cultures but in one nation..

I attended Sekolah Menengah Pertama 27 (Junior High School) in Jakarta. After that, I attended Sekolah Menengah Atas 12 (Senior High School), also in Jakarta. Due to my performance in SMA I received an opportunity to study in University of Indonesia, in Physics Department without any enrollment test. I do not want to be so pride to myself but I think it was so great at that time.

During my study in Physics Department, I was offered a scholarship in Computer Science Department - Gunadarma University (aka STMIK Gunadarma). I finished my Sarjana degree in Computer Science in 1991, and one year later I finished my Sarjana degree in Physics. After finishing my degree in physcis I flew to Perth-Australia to continue my study in Computer Science, Edith Cowan University. I was so lucky and got a scholarship from ADCSS for my Master degree. I finished my Master programm in 1994 and went back to Indonesia. I learned a lot during my studying in Australia, not only from scientic matters but from the meaning of my life, particularly the meaning of a friendship.

After arriving at Cengkareng Airport in 15th October 1994, I had to to face some problems. However, just like people says, "Life must go on". It was only a small part of my life. New activities had taken my concentration from the problem. I was busy with many stuffs. Designing and implementing the Internet connection for Gunadarma University, designing many trainning curriculums for Lembaga Pengembangan Komputer (LePKom) had taken my energy and brought my life to normal again.

I work as a lecture in a private university, namely Gunadarma University. I chose a private University rather than a more prestigious government university due to some personal considerations. I joined the Special Regional Interest Group on Profesional Standardization for Asia Pacific as IPKIN representative. After founding a working group for the Information Technology Profesional Standardisation in Indonesia I gave my position to my older brother. Yes, my older brother is a lecturer in Computer Department as well.

Now I am persuading my Doctoral degree in Bielefeld University. DAAD provides a scholarship for me. I am doing my research in RVS Arbeitsgruppe, and my supervisor is Prof Peter B Ladkin Phd.

At the moment, I am actively supporting Linux in Indonesia. I am writing many papers, articles, and performing the translation project. Music is one of my hobbies, I like to listen music and play it as well. Genesis, Emerson, Lake and Palmer (ELP), YES, Marillion, God Bless or Gong 2000 are my favourites. I like Jazz as well. In Australia, I used to play in a band in an Indonesian Restaurant (Stamina-Perth).
